Meet the Team

Matt Hamlett

Managing Director

I set up Swims Sway Ltd in 2004 and I teach swimmers of all ages and abilities.
I qualified as a Level 2 Swimming Teacher in 1996 and I have since qualified in adult & child and disabled swimming and regularly attend CPD courses (continual professional development).
I have a background in competitive swimming with my greatest achievements being swimming at Olympic trials in 1992 & 1996. My team of swimming teachers and I teach to the ASA national teaching plan (swim stages 1-7) within the Swims Away Ltd swimming programme.
We offer swimming lessons to all, whether it be in a group or as a private lesson. I believe we can teach anyone to swim! See you around the pool, Matt.

Judith Hamlett

Company Secretary

I have worked for Swims Away since September 2009 and I'm usually based at St Catherine's Academy in Harwood but you will see me on payment weeks at our other locations.
I am Matthew and Ben‘s mum and my other half Mal deals with Swims Away finances, so we reallyare a family run business.
I have been involved in swimming for a very long time when Matt and Ben were swimming for local clubs in Atherton and Swinton and as part of Manchester United & Salford Swim Squad (now City of Salford).
We were getting up at 5am in the morning to go early morning training and then again in the evening, along with going to galas at weekends. This meant that swimming was part of our life for many years but we have no regrets as both boys had success, Ben at age group level and Matt at age group, county, English schools and National level.

Ben Hamlett

Senior Swimming Instructor

I'm the longest serving teacher and possibly the most experienced teacher apart from the boss!
I'm an ex-competition swimmer which I believe always helps with the children's progression. Which is ultimately what you expect to see when you pay good money.
You can usually tell a teacher who has been a good swimmer...it can be glaringly obvious!
My methods are slightly unorthodox but are extremely effective over time. If I can teach 3 of the 4 strokes , the basics of Butterfly and all the water skills then I would be happy as I'm sure most parents would. The kids love me as I get down on their level and try to have a laugh with them, which means they are more receptive to me and in turn they try harder.
See you all around the pool soon, Ben
