Meet the Team

Matt Hamlett

Managing Director

I set up Swims Sway Ltd in 2004 and I teach swimmers of all ages and abilities.
I qualified as a Level 2 Swimming Teacher in 1996 and I have since qualified in adult & child and disabled swimming and regularly attend CPD courses (continual professional development).
I have a background in competitive swimming with my greatest achievements being swimming at Olympic trials in 1992 & 1996. My team of swimming teachers and I teach to the ASA national teaching plan (swim stages 1-7) within the Swims Away Ltd swimming programme.
We offer swimming lessons to all, whether it be in a group or as a private lesson. I believe we can teach anyone to swim! See you around the pool, Matt.

Judith Hamlett

Company Secretary

I have worked for Swims Away since September 2009 and I'm usually based at St Catherine's Academy in Harwood but you will see me on payment weeks at our other locations.
I am Matthew and Ben‘s mum and my other half Mal deals with Swims Away finances, so we reallyare a family run business.
I have been involved in swimming for a very long time when Matt and Ben were swimming for local clubs in Atherton and Swinton and as part of Manchester United & Salford Swim Squad (now City of Salford).
We were getting up at 5am in the morning to go early morning training and then again in the evening, along with going to galas at weekends. This meant that swimming was part of our life for many years but we have no regrets as both boys had success, Ben at age group level and Matt at age group, county, English schools and National level.

Ben Hamlett

Senior Swimming Instructor

I'm the longest serving teacher and possibly the most experienced teacher apart from the boss!
I'm an ex-competition swimmer which I believe always helps with the children's progression. Which is ultimately what you expect to see when you pay good money.
You can usually tell a teacher who has been a good can be glaringly obvious!
My methods are slightly unorthodox but are extremely effective over time. If I can teach 3 of the 4 strokes , the basics of Butterfly and all the water skills then I would be happy as I'm sure most parents would. The kids love me as I get down on their level and try to have a laugh with them, which means they are more receptive to me and in turn they try harder.
See you all around the pool soon, Ben

I started swimming when I was three years old and I joined Bolton swimming club in 2012. I became a young volunteer in and this gave me a great opportunity as it made me realise that I loved to see the progression in children’s swimming and working with children was what I wanted to do, I then qualified as a level 1 coach and I carried on helping at Bolton swimming club. I started working for Swimsaway in 2017 as an assistant swimming teacher, In August 2019 I qualified as a level 2 swimming teacher.

Chelsea Summerscales

Level 2 Swimming Teacher

Lyndsay Mollekin

Level 2 Swimming Teacher

I have been working for Swims Away for longer than I can remember and have been teaching swimming for over 15 years. My passion for swimming started with synchronised swimming and progressed into teaching, watching the children develop and progress each week pushed me to completing a sports science degree and furthering this with a teaching degree. I have experience of teaching both children and adults alike and have taught many swimmers with additional needs or specialist requirements. I mostly teach in the water, giving younger children and nervous adults the extra support they need to be able to build up their swimming skills. As a mum of 2 young children I now get to see from the parents point of view and I know how scary it can be to take your little baby into swimming lessons for the first time or for your 3 year old to join classes when they still seem just like babies to you, but trust us they’re in safe hands!

Jake Wilson

Swimming Teacher

I have been involved with teaching swimming since the age of 13, when I started volunteering at the swim school I had been to as a child. Consequently, I have worked in various places, acquiring valuable skills which I feel have helped improve communication with the children, and their parents alike. I joined Swims Away Ltd as an assistant in early 2016 and completed my Level 2 qualification in the summer of 2017. When away from poolside, I spend the majority of my free time repairing computers or enjoying good food...
